National Institute of Local Government (NILG) Library, Information and documentation Center (LIDC) is a fully automated special library and documentation center in Bangladesh having a collection of 30,000 books and other documents, using self - development library management software, which supports web-based online circulation system. It's online database provides full access to all users, facilitates navigation and reservations of books, journals and other documents from distant work stations. The user can also check their borrowing status profile and can reserve books and other documents for 48 hours through the internet.
National Institute of Local Government (former Local Government Institute), a research, training and consulting organization in the field of local government, was established on 1 July, 1969 under the East Pakistan Government Educational and Training Institutions Ordinance, 1961. The Institute is under the administrative control of the Local Government Division , Ministry of Local government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. At present it is governed by the Jatyo Sthanyo Sarkar Institute Act, 1992.
One of the main objectives of NILG was to organize/ set up a Library, Information and Documentation center in the field of local government and allied subjects for it's users. To full fill this objectives, NILG has been trying to collect different types of library materials from different sources, home and abroad through exchange program with many national and international organizations, purchase and donation from the very beginning of the Institute.
